I have my cable line wired straight into my hdtv (using a cable card) my question is if I send the audio out from the tv via the TOS Link (to the receiver) is it still digital audio? or has the process of going through the tv switched it to analog?
And I need to buy another component cable are they all basically the same or is there a huge difference as far as quality goes (I only need 3 or 4ft.)

TosLink cables can only transmit a digital signal.

You can pick up a decent AR component cable for about $20 at Best Buy. As far as the cable card and TV goes you will get 5.1 from the optical output to your receiver but some TV's have a menu setting to enable Dolby Digital or downsampled PCM via the cable card.
