So I just inherited a nice 27" TV, but the built in speakers are almost dead (only garbled sound) The back of the TV hsa variable Audio out, AV in, Loop out, and of course a Coax jack.

I'm going to get a DVD player soon as well. Question: What's the cheapest way to bypass the built-in speakers. The guy at best buy said my ONLY option was to buy a reciever. Is this right? Or can I somehow go direct to external speakers, or through the DVD player?

Now here's the other idea: I'm going to be buying a stereo system as well...mainly for the speakers.
Shouldn't I be able to use this as a reciever? And then just route through here for sound, regardless of whether I'm watching TV or DVD?

Thanks!
