Who makes the best 32" LCD for handling standard def. Seems there is a lot of disappointment w/ std. def. on new LCDs, but since most programming is still std. def. this is important to me. |

Standard def is on it's way out. Truly!
Most major networks are already transmitting digital EDTV full time. HD channels are stunning.
Free HD primetime and sporting events on the major networks are stunning.
Standard def should not be important to you.
You need to rethink your position.
If LCD is your choice, make sure it's a fast scanning model. You don't want action scenes to blur. Watch out for the "screen door effect" from widely spaced pixels. Since you're looking for a small 32 inch model, look for a direct view widescreen. The 4:3 aspect ratio is quickly being replaced with the 16:9 aspect ratio.
In other words...invest for the present and future, not the past.
