Is it true that any DirecTV HD Reciever I buy now will have to be replaced in a few months?
Is a new technology being introduced by them that will require different recievers in the near future?

Any help appreciated!

When you buy an HD receiver for a DirectV, they subsidize a major portion of the buy and expect to get their money back from you through a year or mores subscription. They ain't gonna throw their money away, you're worried about nothing. They will be good for some time to come, however, if you wait a year, the receivers they will be selling then will be better than the ones you buy now, and if you wait two years...

Roy,

Do some reading. Direct tv is coming out with a new receiver. The receivers they have now are called mpg 2 ,they will be coming out with a new mpg 4 receiver. The mpg 2 receivers will no longer work once they have the new ones on line. I heard direct tv will be giving current customers new HDTV receivers for free, so before you buy anything check with direct tv to be sure they will give you a new one for free.
