I taped something in long play and I go to play it back and it sounds like chipmunks and the picture is bad. I try to change the setting to Long Play when I play it back but it won't change and only plays on short play. I tried it in another vcr and the same problem happens.

Try cleaning the audio/control head with a q-tip wet with alcohol. Don't clean the drum.
