Is there any special or recommended surge protection device especially for DLP TV's?

I would recommend a 500va UPS. It doubles as a surge protector, and will provide your TV power incase of an outage. Most Rear Projection DLP/LCD/LCoS sets run the fan for about 90 seconds after you turn them off to cool the lamp. The UPS will allow this to happen even if you lose power. It helps prevent premature lamp failure.
