The 56DR650 is not directly manufacture by Sharp, but by Taiwan-based Delta Electronics Co., Ltd. These DLPs are OK, but the lamp doesn't last more than 1-year., The cost for these varies between $400.00 and $600.00 depending on the namebrand they're sold under.

Along with lamp's longevity issue there have been reports from owners of other rebadged Deltas with questionable picture and sound quality resulting in massive returns, costly repairs and many complaints.

The companies that had sold these had ALL discontinued them within months of their releases. These units were the Gateway RP56., Vizio RP56, ViewSonic NextVision N5600W and 3G Technology, inc. GEM GDT-56DRP.

A few websites are still selling them because the overstock for these is massive. The Gateway, Vizio and GEM models all use the same cabinet but in different colors., Only the ViewSonic had it's own particular design.

You can search for technical problems with each brand and as you read you'll notice similar complaints regardless of the brand., also some specificatiosn are similar to one another.

My advise is buyer beware, wait for the reviews from the first buyers aswell as video magazines such as Sound & Vision. Remember, at the end this is another Delta 56" DLP with a proprietary cosmetic design., The only feature that set the Sharp version apart from the other rebranded units are the integrated ASTC tuner, the cableCARD slot, the EPG {TV Guide} and the HDMi input instead of the DVi, nothing else, the Delta quality is still there.
