Can someone tell me the difference between a 4:3 Aspect ratio projector and a 16:9 projector?

Especially when a 4:3 projector can support 16:9.
I ask specifically because the Dell 2300 MP, which is very cheap and it has the best specs i have seen for a home theater projector, supports 16:9.
