I have Scientific Atlantic 8300HD-DVR top box for HDTV programming. I utilize both HDMI, and component hookups for audio options. The problem is that when I power up the cable box and tv, I get a black box in the center of the screen. It disappears when I change channels, or go to screen guide. Is this the box or the TV? Has anyone had this issue?

The HDCP handshake between the DVR and your display becomes corrupted if you turn on the TV first. If you wish to avoid the symptom simply turn on your STB first. For that matter why do you ever turn it off? The HDD is active anytinme it is plugged in so you are not saving any more electricity than it requires to light the LCD's on it's front, about $1 per year.
