I have a SuperBeta VCR from 1992 and put in a pre-recorded video that has only been played a few times. The tape is in pristine condition--no crinkles in tape. But about 15 minutes from beginning of tape, machine cuts off. Punch rewind and a few seconds of "heaving" stressload on motor and stops again. Other tapes play fine in machine. I suspect this tape (last rewound on another Betamax VCR) is wound too tight on the spool and stressload is causing machine to cut off when motor can't handle it. My question for the experts: How do you get a tape wound too tight on spool loosened up so it will play and not cut off?

Try fast forwarding through the tape from the beginning to the end, then let it rewind back to the beginning.
