DVI only carries the video signal and HDMI carries both video and audio in a single cable. If my cable box has a DVI output only, then could I use a DVI to HDMI cable (assume the TV has a HDMI input) and get both video and audio in the one cable? Do I still need component video connections from the cable box to the TV in that case?

Going from DVI to HDMI will not get sound. You will still need composite cables to get the sound from the cable box to the tv.
