I recently purchased a Sony 55" KDF655WF LCDRPT. I love it!! When I purchased it though, the salesmen told me to turn off my Progressive Scan on my DVD player. Turns out I don't have one. My regular player looks fantastic! Everyone else I have talked to says the person was wrong.

Please help if you know the true answer. I will buy a new player.

You got good advice. It is likely that the scaler in your display is superior to the scaler in your DVD player. All that really matters is that you like the picture. All other opinions become irrelevant.
