I have a Curtis Mathie CM19011 Tv, with Direct TV. I am getting Tivo, and a DVD/VHS recorder. Any tips... I'd like to transfer all my VHS tapes to DVD. (only about 1/4 of the tapes are protected.) would appreciate any and all suggestions

Buy separate, not combo. Combos are cheap quality and won't let you copy anything copyguarded. With separates you can use a stabilizer for copy protection.
