I just bought a DirectTV system at Best Buy, and the salesguy told me that I had to purchase their $80 surge protector. If I didn't, I'd have to buy one supplied by the installation company, and if I didn't get one, then the installer could refuse installation becasue "it would violate safety codes".
I've already got a decent surge protector for my TV and audio equipment, so do I really need this $80 one? My gut tells me it's just a ploy by BestBuy to sell more merchandise.

I stopped buying at Best Buy... They are nothing but a bunch of liars, cheats and scam artist. They tried to BS me when buying a Home theater system, into buying a $85 surge protector too. Then they tried to convince me that the Home Theater system HAD to include the required cables to hook it up "BY LAW" Then tring to sell me the expensive Monstor cables. What a bunch of CROOKS!
