REGION FREE METHODS FOR : Zenith

DVB312, DVB216 VCD and Macrovision hacks:

1. Power up with NO CD in the drive.
2. Press PAUSE.
3. Press 1472.
4. At the EEPROM screen write down the code for backup (eg: 55 53 00 45 14 55 64 FF).

**Use the left and right arrows on the remote to move
**Press the number keys on the remote for number entry
**Press and hold numbers 1 thru 6 for letter entry

5a.If you want to enable VCD AND disable Macrovision:
Enter: 55 53 00 47 14 55 FE FF
OR: 55 53 00 46 14 55 FE FF

5b.If you want to enable VCD without messing with Macrovision:
Enter: 55 53 00 47 14 55 64 FF
OR: 55 53 00 46 14 55 64 FF

6. Press PAUSE to exit the EEPROM screen.
7. Press POWER to turn the unit off.
8. Press POWER to turn the unit on.
9. Insert VCD disk.
10.Press PLAY when ready.

This also enables SVCD playback.

Yes for VCD with 55 53 00 47 14 55 FE FF.

Macrovision has not been tested though!

1. Press the Pause button on your remote control.
2. Using your remote control enter the code 3, 1, 4, 1, 5 and 9 Note: If your unit does not enter the following mode which enables you to enter a region code, repeat steps 1 and 2. You may need to enter these codes in a shorter time span for them to work.
3. Press the 0 button on your remote control for Region free, 1 for Region 1 or 2 for Region 2.
4. Press the Pause button on your remote control.
5. Power off your player and wait a few seconds.
6. Power on your player.

VCD Hack

1. Power on the player with no disk in the drive.
2. Press PAUSE on the Remote.
3. Enter 1, 4, 7, 2 on the Remote (the characters 01 47 should appear on the display, if your player is a non UK model, this number will probably be different).
4. Press the UP arrow THREE times (the characters 04 Fd should appear on the display).
5. Press PROGRAM, 6, PROGRAM, 5 (the characters 04 FE should now be displayed).
6. Press ENTER (the display should flash briefly).
7. Press RETURN.
8. Power the player off and then back on.
9. Play a VCD!

To view the firmware version of this player:

1. Press the Setup button on your remote control.
2. Select TV Aspect and place the cursor on the 16:9 Wide option.
3. Using your remote control enter the code 1, 3, 9, 7, 1, 3 and 9.
4. Press the Enter button on your remote control.
5. You should now see the version information screen.
6. Pressing Setup button on your remote control exits this info screen.

NOTE - on some versions there seems to be display hinting for a two-digit code, not one digit as implied in the hack.  Can anyone confirm this, or suggest how to get the hack to work?

Does not work for 2550, 2201, 2200.

DVD 5201, 5551C This is the hack to view the firmware version... it also shows the prom values which appear to be a set of registers composed of 2 hex numbers per register for any hackers that wish to experiment.

1. With the power on...
2. Press "SETUP".
3. Then choose TV ASPECT from the menu.
4. Then move over to the option 16:9 wide.
5. Press the numbers "1397139".
6. Press "ENTER" it should show the version and some other data.
7. Press "SETUP" when you wish to exit.

It is a good idea to do this before you experiment with hacks so that you can write down the original values in case you need to restore them

This was posted as a vcd hack but it did not work on and it may be a macrovision hack.

1. Remove all dvds from the player and trun it off.
2. Trun "POWER" on
3. Press "PAUSE"
4. press "1472"
5. press the up arrow three times.
6. press "PROGRAM", "6", "PROGRAM" "5"
7. press "ENTER"
8. press "RETURN"
9. turn the "POWER" off and then on again

Macrovision should now be disabled.

Prom Values

Before: Prom_option: 55 53 00 4c 12 55 01 FF
After: Prom_option: 55 53 00 FE 12 55 01 FF

VCD and SVCD Hack

This is very similar to the macrovision fix.

1. Remove all dvds from the player and trun it off.
2. Turn "POWER" on
3. Press "PAUSE"
4. Press "1472"
5. Press the up arrow six times.
6. Press "PROGRAM", "6", "PROGRAM" "5"
7. Press "ENTER"
8. Press "RETURN"
9. Turn the "POWER" off and then on again

Macrovision should now be disabled.

Prom Values

Before: Prom_option: 55 53 00 FE 12 55 01 FF
After: Prom_option: 55 53 00 FE 12 55 FE FF

If your TV is PAL and the picture is green or yellow use the s-video output of the player.
