i have the 4gb sandisk sansa e260 or w/e, it works perfectly except for one thing: how do i take the music that came on it off of it?

The first way is to format it. And that's probably the cleanest way.

The second way is to go into the Settings and change the USB mode to MSC. Connect the e260 via the USB cable and open My Computer. You should see a drive for the Sansa player. Make sure you are viewing hidden files and folders and just delete what you don't want. Remember, there are albums and playlists to remove, too.
