New Products

With only weeks to go, weve now finalised the agenda for the 2005 Hi-Fi & Home Entertainment Show, and its a blinder!

London, England–September 2005–Visitors this year will be able to experience our new in-car display, boasting SQ Plus, harman-kardon, and Revo Digital, with a bevy of truly mouth-watering vehicles kitted out to the very ends of their chassis. These include a radical Citroen C2, an ‘uber-bling’ Cadillac Escalade with a £200k price tag, a worked-over BMW M5, the new Range Rover Sport, a Porsche 996 and an Escort Cosworth, all capable of making sounds you never thought were achievable in transit. And there are more to come: if all goes well, we might have a certain Italian GT once owned by a celebrated F1 driver, and a tricked-out version of the world’s most desirable SUV.

Hi-Fi News, in association with BADA, have invited noted style guru Susanna Powell to address the trade on a crucial topic: Applying style to home entertainment retailing. She’ll be there on Friday, the 23rd of September, covering all aspects of style in retailing, explaining how to bring a touch of glamour to the art of retail, how to create visual impact even with limited resources and how to use appearance as a sales tool. And you’ll want to hang onto her every word: Susanna is the former Style Editor of Living Etc.

As of 1 September, we’re able to boast over 200 brands on display at the Renaissance and Park Inn hotels. Among the scoops they’re providing are:

• not one but two new Quad electrostatic speakers, the ESL 2805 and ESL 2905
• the return of Radford, with the new STA25 Mk 5 — reviving one of the UK’s best-loved amplifiers
• the first glimpses of the Absolute Sounds ‘Studio System’
• the UK debut of Audio Analogue’s sub-£500 Enigma — CD player, tuner and amp in one tiny box
• the UK launch of Krell Evolution, their most outrageous series of electronics in years

Hi-Fi News’ contributors will be there in abundance. As has become a show tradition, Paul Miller’s A/V Tech room will again be the place to see and hear the very finest in home theatre systems. Paul is putting together a cutting-edge package that will dazzle even the most critical cinephile. For pure audio, Ken Kessler has assembled two systems at two price points to show what you can put together with the cream of today’s components. And you’ll be able to enjoy one-on-one interrogation at the Meet the Editors session, with a special guest from the USA, Michael Fremer of Stereophile!

And there’s a special event that mustn’t be missed. 2006 is the 50th Anniversary of Hi-Fi News. Former Editor Steve Harris and Ken Kessler have produced a new book, Sound Bites: 50 Years of Hi-Fi News, to celebrate the magazine’s illustrious history. The book will have its world launch at the Show, and Steve and Ken will be on hand to sign copies.
