Sharp Introduces 65-Inch Widescreen AQUOS, Worlds Largest, Most Stunning LC HDTV To Date

MAHWAH, N.J. — Sharp unveiled an incredible breakthrough in flat-panel television with the introduction of the world’s largest widescreen Liquid Crystal HDTV. The new 65-inch AQUOS is the pinnacle of Sharp’s industry-leading roster of Emmy Award-winning* flat-panel TVs that deliver eye-popping sight and sound experiences as well as unmatched contemporary designs. With screen sizes ranging from 13- to 65-inches, Sharp’s AQUOS collection reinforces the company’s dominant position as the global leader in Liquid Crystal Television.**

“Year after year, Sharp Electronics breaks new barriers in home entertainment. Last year we delivered the first 45-inch LC HDTV, and we’ve raised the bar once again with the awe-inspiring 65-inch LC HDTV,” said Bob Scaglione, senior vice president, Consumer Electronics Marketing Group, Sharp Electronics Corporation. “The new 65-inch AQUOS with built-in HDTV tuner and CableCARD slot truly is the pinnacle of home entertainment, and we look forward to delivering this breakthrough product to our loyal dealers and customers.”

The 65-inch AQUOS is not only the world’s largest widescreen LC HDTV, it also delivers a stellar 1080p (progressive) image, the pinnacle of the high definition TV standards. It is compatible with the new Digital Cable Ready specifications, so that consumers can simply insert a CableCARD from their cable-TV company and enjoy high-definition TV without the need for an outboard set-top box.*** The television offers outstanding 1920 x 1080 pixel
resolution for a “true” 16:9 aspect ratio with enhanced contrast and faster response time using Sharp’s exclusive Quick Shoot video circuitry. The result is a viewing experience that leaves competitors in the digital dust.

In addition to the 65-inch AQUOS, Sharp is introducing several other new, impressive widescreen LCD HDTVs and HD Monitors ranging from 26- to 65-inches. In classic Sharp tradition, consumers will have a wide variety of screen sizes, stylish designs and speaker options from which to choose. Not only will the new AQUOS models appeal to design enthusiasts, but they will excite home theater aficionados as well. The LC-TVs have all of the most advanced digital interfaces (HDMI, DVI-I, 1394) to connect with the latest components.

“Our new 65-inch AQUOS LC HDTV and its siblings further cement Sharp’s leadership position in the fast-growing flat-panel television business,” said Scaglione. “These sets are just the latest products from our new sixth-generation factory in Kameyama, Japan, where the integrated manufacture of LCD panels to LCD TVs takes place. When the factory opened last year we stated it would lead to the industry’s largest and highest-quality flat-panel TVs. Those claims are now a living reality.”
