Thread: Confused. Need expert opinion on didgital music |

Guys I need your help.
I want to build a home theater system and my music source is primarily MP3....either from my laptop or my iPod.
I am looking for at least 5.1 AV reciever.
Now my questions are:
1. MP3 is already lo-fi. If I connect my iPod or laptop to the reciever via the headphone to RCA, will the sound quality depreciate?
2. MP3 is stereo. So I understand that only 2 channels will play out of 5.1 (or 7.1). Is there any device I can use between the iPod and the receiever which can overcome this problem?
Any help will be appreciated.

1. Yes
2. A receiver capable of DTS Neo6 or Circle Surround or any other proprietary surround matrix capable receiver can do the trick.
Are you using a yamaha 5706 by any chance? If you do, then you already have that capability.
