Since 200GB+ hard drives are readily available for about $125 I'd like to rip all of my CD collection to hard drive using the FLAC lossless compression. With FLAC I am told that there will be no reduction in fidelity as there is with MP3. Are there any recommendations for PC software applications and operating systems? |

If you want to try linux and just want to play music, you might try this (tooting my own horn here a bit): http://www.musicpd.org It will allow you to control playback with a web interface (as well as many other ways, such as a remote) and it supports many of the popular formats (mp3, flac, ogg vorbis, aac, etc). |
