Ok I was getting all ready to go out and buy a sub but i've hit a bump in the road. At the moment i've got an older receiver, it only supports 4 channels and I would really love a sub but the salesmen says that hooking up a sub (with rear speakers) may blow my receiver/amp. And that if I just use the sub with no rears the sound will be bad because it will have high frequencies being sent to the sub and it will sound really bad.

Can anyone give me some advice on how the quality will be, suggestions, etc etc.

Thanks all

Is this a 4 channel *surround* receiver...meaning Left, Right, Center and a mono surround channel(split in two)...or do you have one of the older "Quad" receivers?
