I just made the move from stereo to surround; looking for some advice: I had two NHT SuperTwo's and an AMC 3100a amp. Now I've added an HK AVR330 and 3 SuperOne's (for center and rears). First thing I did, of course, was pop in a CD and compare some music on both amps. I was intending to sell the AMC, since who needs two amps, right? Guess what? The AMC sounds significantly better. (I suppose that should be expected -- I've read that good stereo amps are better at music than HT receivers [except for NAD?], but I thought, "NHT, newer technology", etc...) So now I'm thinking, maybe I should keep the AMC for music. How would I go about wiring the system so I can listen to music through the AMC, and everything else through the HK? Should I keep the SuperTwo's wired to the AMC, and somehow run cables from the HK to the AMC, so the "front L&R" channels always go through the AMC? I never quite understood the use of the "Preamp in/out" loopy thing ... should I use that? Am I crazy to keep both? I tested the HK with "SURROUND OFF" and the front speakers set to "LARGE" -- maybe there's another setting that'll make it sound better? The sound just wasn't nearly as smooth as the AMC, harsher mids-to-highs ... less "musical". This is to be expected, right? Thanks for any advice y'all might offer... Ze'ev |
