So I picked up a Yamaha YST-SW030 from a friend of mine who never used it in the home theater system he bought, and I was wondering if it could somehow be used on my computer sound system. I have a small Altec Lansing setup right now, with two small speakers and a medium subwoofer. I'm afraid I don't know too much about how speaker/sub systems work, so advice or directions would be greatly appreciated! |

Is the Altec subwoofer powered? How is it connected to the computer? If it's RCA cables you may be able to jut swap out the Altec sub for the Yamaha. |

The Altec Subwoofer needs a power source separate from the computer (plugged directly into the wall). The sub is connected to a control speaker, which connects to the PC via a green cable (Sorry, I don't know the name) that goes to my sound card. I don't think it can be replaced by the Yamaha, the speakers won't work unless the sub is connected. Would there be a way to connect the Yamaha separately? |
