Hey Art, how's that Levon Helm cd? I saw he was on Letterman this past week and I tried to stay up to watch, but I fell asleep. Should have DVR'd it.

Dirt Farmer is outstanding. Levon at his most grounded. Both rich and meaningful as well as full of humor and wit...a great listen. I have it on good authority that his just released "Electric Dirt" is even better. Buy 'em both you won't regret it.

BTW his daughter Amy can be heard on both albums...way good!

Let me add Sem that the Dirt Farmer album bares little if any resemblance to the music of The Band. It's more acoustic and organic than that, however Electric Dirt is more along the lines of The Band as it may have progressed naturally over the decades. Dirt Farmer is well recorded and catches Levon shortly after recovering from throat cancer and with a voice that's still rough from the experience. Electric Dirt on the other hand shows a Levon Helm who has recovered sufficiently to have regained strengtth in his voice and with strength comes the confidence that the next note will be there when you summons it.

Very nice on the Helm, Art.
I just ordered both.

Mike sent me a couple of Pic's from a Keith Urban concert last nite, hope to get a review there as well.

Maybe Mike, you could include a shot of your lovely wife in the next ones...

Last album from Kim Mitchell and the Max.
The band had just started a tour for this, their best album, and the wheels came off in Dallas opening for Rush, on what would have been a hugly successful tour, no doubt.
The Max blew up, Rush carried on, and Kim is a DJ in Toronto, after collecting gold records with Peter Fredette (traffic, Joe Walsh), playing every instrument that you could carry to the stage, and singing like Meatloaf on steroids and vise grips on his nuts. This man is unreal, google him.

Rush toured with ZZ top on that tour for a few nights in Austin, a local band covered a bunch of Max, including performing 'Battlescar' with Rush.
This is a song that is meant to test your speakers, amp, neighbors, wife's sense of humour, dog's urinal tract integrity, windows, roof, etc.

As to the Keith Urban concert, as I posted previously, I go to about one big ticket concert a year. After last night's event at the American Airlines Center, where to Mavs and Stars play, I am so glad I ponied up the scalper prices for main floor seating, even if we had to stand the whole concert. My idea was to take my wife to a show she would enjoy. Keith Urban is one of those performers that my wife would like wake up to one morning. After last night I would have to say there are thousands of his female fans who feel that way. I learned that if you really need another reason to go to a concert go see a stud like Urban. There had to be a six hotties to every guy there, all of them groovin' away to his every lick and vocal.

As to Keith Urban and his band, probably the best live performance I ever seen. He is so enthusiastic about playing, not to mention one of the best guitarists I ever heard live, Robert Cray and Eric Clapton notwithstanding, that the entire arena is just grabbed up and swept away with the show. His live show is nothing like I ever heard on his CDs. The man loves to perform and takes everything to another level altogether.

I went expecting my wife to have a good time attending this heart throb's performance. She had a wildly wonderful experience. I got to listen to a real artist. Oh yeah, I also got to be "the guy" who aced her birthday gift!

His tour continues, catch it if you can. (Your sweetie will love you for it too!)

Costco purchase for $6.99

The Best of The Johnny Cash TV Show 1969-1971
CD

An unusual variety of music. The songs were mastered by Chris Athens at Sterling Sound, New York.

I highlight the mastering as all of these songs are near reference quality. The vocals are very clear and precise.

Oh, yeah, and it's Johnny Cash on almost half of the cuts.

Mike, Urban is not our cup of tea, maybe after your report we'll have to rethink that. But then I won't be taking my wife to him. I want me to be her heart-throb.

He comes from a little town about 100 or so miles north of us here. Queesnslanders do have talent :-)

Glad you both enjoyed it.

I've been a Maiden fan for probably 20 years, and Bruce is one of my favourite vocalists. Picking up the disc was a no-brainer for me.

Hi Neil. I only have Terrence Boylan's debut self titled cd. Been meaning to pick up "Suzy" but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Thumbs up for "Time Passages" - I recently picked that up on vinyl. In the past I'd been lukewarm on Stewart, but just the last few years I've started buying some of his albums, fueled I think after seeing him live. Great show, solo acoustic. He impressed.
