I have older floor speakers that have a av hookup but on my new sony reciever, the hookup for the speakers are different. I am trying to use the old speakers, how can i do this?

TB, what are av hookups?
Do the speakers have rca plugs on them, or bare wire?

rca, but my surround speaker hookup has a bare wire hookup not rca.

TB, you can cut off the plugs and expose 2 bare wires.
When the wires are exposed, use a AA battery to determine polarity. Ask a friend for help with this.
Touch the wires across the battery and watch the woofer. If the woofer moves outward, then the wire that was on the battery+ is receiver +. Reverse is true if the woofer recedes.
