Ok, so I have been looking into putting together a home subwoofer myself since most subs on the market are overpriced. I saw the perfect subwoofer that suit my wants. I found a nice 2,500wattRMS sub that I can use for my house which I will power it with 2 Crown amps down to 2 ohms. Don't worry, I will box this right for home use. My concern is how will this pound in a basement? Here is the link to the sub:

You have the specs and the enclosure needs, you have chosen the amplification.
Do you need approval?
Build it and let us know. |

You mention price as a reason to build your own sub. After the cost of $800 for the driver, the cost of the amps, the speaker housing, and the interconnects where is the savings. Its not like you can just put this sub in just any box the build quality needs to be top shelf. I can't believe there are no good subs on the market in that price range. |

AudioPulse is very good
One thing that's really important to understand is how important the enclosure and amp are..
Example:
System A: Your Sub Choice, Enclosure: Some random large sealed box. Amp: 2kW
System B: Same Sub as A, Enclosure: Ported box designed for efficient flat response in YOUR ROOM to 30hz, well-braced, etc... Amp: 2kW
System C: Same Sub as A, Enclosre: Ported box designed for less efficient flat response in YOUR ROOM to 12hz, well-braced, etc... Same Amp
System A would end up sounding like the driver and add some distortion depending on the box.
System B would end up being a lot more efficient (louder) and help lower distortion in some ways, but add distortion around the port tuning..
System C (my choice) would be of similar efficiency to System A, except it would extend to a much lower frequency.
For the same amplifier power input, the driver would be moving different distances at the frequencies affected by the boxes (below 50hz)
So it really depends on what you want from the system.. If what you want is just LOUD independent of frequency, you'd be better off with a more efficient pro driver like the Aurasound NRT-18.
If you want LOUD down to low frequencies (think movies, or organ music, or synthesized music..), you'd be making a good choice with that 15", or EVEN better choice with an 18" driver or pair of 18" drivers with a lot more displacement capability AND power handling AND of course the needed specs to go low..
