Hi. I am considering building a set of speaker cabinets for my parents as a gift. My dad owns a pair of JBL L166 Horizon's from '75(I think...) which sound incredible. I have the plans for the JBL cabinets (http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/jbl/plans/1970s-kit.htm) and would buy a nice set of speakers to put inside. I would love any input on this, especially if anyone thinks this is a stupid idea =) I think I have enough skill and patience to pull this off, but I dont know if this would work out.

I'll say it again. Building good sounding speakers is much more involved than throwing drivers into a box. If you've never designed or built speakers before go with a kit. There are many very good ones available. Check out these:

Hey Max, I have a pair of JBL L166 for sale if you are interested. I had them reconditoned about 10 years ago, and they probably need new foam. I also replaced the grills, but otherwise they are in perfect condition. Make me an offer if you are interest...jonathan.kurry@centresinc.com
Thanks.
