I have the opportunity to purchase a vintage H.H. Scott 350B FM Tuner. http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/ele/857307535.html It seems quite nice, but what should I expect? I have ZERO experience with tube equipment, let alone a vintage tube tuner like this. UPDATE: http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue18/scottlt110.htm |

. Tube tuners need to be aligned on a regular basis and Scott tuners need it on a more than regular basis. That would be every few years in some cases. If you don't have someone in your area who can align a tube tuner, I would pass. Otherwise, a good tube tuner is hard to beat as far as sound qaulity goes. Look for a Fisher or McIntosh or a modified Dyna. . |

Thanks Jan, I'm kind of torn on this, I can pick it up for $50, and I'd like to play around with it, but I don't need to adopt another pet at the moment, so I might have to pass. |

Well, I did buy this tuner, 3 days ago. $47 is an unbeatable price. (I can't believe you didn't at least go and see it!) This 350B is in close to perfect condition, but did need a thorough cleaning. I'm listening to it now, all shined up - nice. There were some minor audio issues at first, but after I cleaned and lubricated the front knobs and switches (and left it on for 2 days), these problems evaporated. It still has the original Scott branded and Telefunken tubes! Yes, eventually I will change the ceramic disc caps, but it works close to perfect right now. The only "repair" I made so far was to resolder the tuning knob light socket. Now my Scott 350B glows AND sounds perfect. Alignment? Sure, at some point soon, but I'm not in a hurry. I'm so glad I caught this gem... <img> <img> |

Congratulations Brandon & welcome to eCoustics. $47 aye, you must be one tough negotiator. I knew it was nice, but I simply didn't have room for it at this time. I have been guilty in the past for buying too much gear. Keep us up to date on the Scott. |

Yea, $47... He didn't have change for a $20 so... I didn't really see any need to negotiate, this thing is surprisingly flawless. Thanks for the welcome. PS: What does this phrase "Too much gear" mean? ;) |
