I am stuck in the old analogue world with a 2 channel Bryston pre amp and amp and a dvd cd player and don't understand the need for DAC's and all that stuff. Please enlighten this old geezer.

Your CD player actually has a DAC in it. It takes the 0's and 1's (bits) from your CD's and coverts it to an analogue signal your pre-amp/amp can understand.

Some DACs are much, much better than others.

.

Brewster, you'll have to be a bit more specific about what you need to know before we can launch into an explanation of the universe.

Are you happy with that you are hearing? Is this just general confusion or are you thinking of trying a new system configuration?

Have you tried placing something on the order of "how CD players work" into a search engine?
