My house was pre-wired for surround sound and several rooms with audio. I have the wires that will plug into my system. Each room with audio is pre-wired for volume control as well. The question is how do i find my speaker boxes to wire in the speakers? I do not have above the ceiling access to find them. Any ideas please?

.

The installer/contractor should have a plot of where the cables were terminated. If they do not, they should be able to do the service and you should argue they need to charge this service to the contractor. You can buy a speaker locator, a device which "beeps" the cables when you come close, but you'll spend about $100 for a one time job. Contact the installer who did the pre wire or your contractor if you don't know who did the wiring.

Rock, if you free the output wires from the volume control and aput a 9v battery on the lead, a pocket compass movement should indicate the path of the wire along it's length.
Use more voltage for a stronger signal.
