I recently purchased a Yamaha HTR-6140 (as part of the Yamaha HT-690 surround system) and am just about completed on connecting the receiver to my speakers/subwoofer, HDTV, HD DVD, & HD DVR.

I have been reading through the manual to see what is involved in calibration and set up after everything is plugged in. A lot of the concepts and steps are hard for me to grasp, being a newbie. Does anyone out there have a similar system that can provide me with some tips that they found useful when doing their configs (in easy to understand language)? I know part of the process is “automatic”, but it still seems a bit confusing to me. My main interest is maximizing the sound quality for HD broadcasts from my DVR and DVD.

Thanks, Ron

Wlcome to the jungle, Ron.
The automatic is the best choice for these setups, you have to follow the steps provided.
When it is working maybe we can help with placement, etc. but out of the box, just follow the steps.
cheers!
