I'd like to get a decent sound system for my bedroom. Right now I listen to stuff through my laptop speakers or headphones. Probably about 60/40 music/movies. I listen to a lot of rock, blues, reggae, and jazz. Mostly relaxed movies, dramas and comedies and stuff. Though I do admit to enjoy being blown away by an action flick on an awesome sound system. Now I'm not a huge audiophile. But I am a huge geek. So if people told me I needed to get three different things and combine them, I'd love that. Or if an integrated system would be best I'm cool with that. $400 for my 12x15 bedroom. What do you guys suggest? |

Cheaper than you'd expect, have a look at the Acoustic Energy Aego M system. It's just a powered subwoofer which also powers the two tiny satellites. It gives a huge sound and is quite a blast for about $200. Just plug its 3.5mm jack into your iPod or laptop. Regards, Frank. |

Thanks for the info. Read some reviews and they look really, really nice. Only problem is it seems impossible to actually buy them! I'll keep looking... also, I'll be plugging the speakers into my PS3. Does that lead to different/more suggestions? Should have said that at the beginning of course, I just forgot. |

Would the B&W Zeppelin fit what you're looking for? Its above your price range, but may be worth saving up for. I've heard one in a hifi shop (not the Apple store) with Apple Lossless files, and it sounded very good. I'd get this: http://www.outlet.philips.com/b2c_redesign/b2c/productdetail.do?productguid=4190 and replace the speakers with something like this: http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/features/542199682 or this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002ZSFTQ or: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ATLS300 and if you want to replace the sub: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ATASP4100B |

Or, for more musical finesse: Sonic Impact T-amp, $60 from partsexpress.com Infinity Beta 20 speakers, $240 shipped from vanns.com Oppo 980 universal player, $160 shipped from amazon.com You'll be $60 over budget but it'll be worth it. |

Go for a used Tivoli System. Sexy, Small, Seperates. There is a receiver on Audiogon for $50 as I type. They arent the cheapest in the world. But I bet you can put one together for $500. Perfect for bedroom, kitchen, bathroom or tiny apartment/studio.
