Mark!!!! I have read with interest all the posts on Bose subwoofers and think mine is a bit different, or at least don't think I saw the complete answer posted...
1) My Sub doesn't work, doesn't power on at all, but all my satellite speakers function when plugged in thru the Sub.
2)The Sub lived next to a baseboard heating panel for quite a while and the black vinyl is peeling off, so maybe extreme heat has something to do with it?
3) I can't get the case off. I remove 2 (that's all I can see) screws and the Bass and LFE knobs, but the plastic case won't budge. I am reluctant to pry too hard with my screwdriver. It looks like it should just slide off, but it won't.
From other posts it could be a fuse, a resistor, or a crystal, but I am confused as to which is most likely with my system.
