I have a Audio/Video Receiver which has ONE RCA hole (Red/White) for preamp out for subwoofers.
My subwoofer is not powered, and only has ONE +/- jack.
How should I connect the receiver to my subwoofer??
I am setting this up for a 5.1 home system
centre, left, right, 2 rear speakers and 1 subwoofers
I only have problems with connecting the subs.

If it is not outside of your means, getting a powered sub is the simplest solution.
This is the best I can do with the information you provided. |

I am only wondering if I have alternative choice to use my old subwoofer so I don't have to use $$ and buy a new one.
I thought the preamp out subwoofer jack will give power to the subwoofer..(sorry if I am wrong as I am a newbie). In that case I can use the subwoofer and connect to the receiver |

Hopefully we are on the same page that a pre-amp and receiver are not the same.
Yet it really does not matter as your receiver will have line out to your sub as well, meaning that either it expects the sub to have an internal amp, or you have a mono block amp which the receiver can feed into which in turn you can hook up into your sub.
Buy a powered sub. Look up HSU and Velodyne.
Used should be good in those lines. |

thanks for your reply, i will check out some powered subs.
just checked back of the receiver, it says subwoofer pre out (mono). will this help? |

Same game, Mate, That output is for a powered sub, or to feed an external amp in the case of a passive(non powered) sub.
Powered subs are cheap enough, but just a few more bucks can get something pretty reasonable.
Follow the brands that Mike posted above. |
