We have a record player (a pretty nice one too) that spins too fast. It is a 'direct drive' I believe it's called, and the inside just contains a small transformer with a motor. All of the songs play about a whole step too sharp and too fast. And yes, I do have it set to 33.3 rpm. There are no external speed adjustments to the player itself. Thanks for your time. |

. Most direct drive tables have their speed controlled by a servo network. Unless you can troubleshoot the particular location that needs repair, you should let a service technician perform the work. |

Have you put a strobe disc to determine if it is really running fast? It usually is the size of the record label in the center with dashes for 33 and 45 rpm (others may show 33 & 45 at 50Hz power also, not a concern of yours if in the US). You shine a lamp on the strobe disc and the 33.3 RPM dashes should be steady and not moving. It may also be possible that the tonal balance of your cartridge is on the light side, giving the impression of less bass and/or faster speed than 33.3 RPM. |
