I currently have a MacBook Pro that only has two audio outs, a Mini and Optical out. I am planning on buying a Harman Kardon HK3465, however it does not have a digital in and I feel like a mini out degrades the sound quality too much. How can I get the optical signal into the HK3465? Is there that much of a difference between a mini and a optical signal?

Clearly I need some help and guidance here.

Why the rally against the analogue mini output, TDG? The 1/8" plug can carry everything that a 1/4" phone plug can.
