Chris Botti Live

Fabulous!!!

Blu-ray DVD 5.1 24/96 pcm.
Great guests and musicians.

Having a go at what American Idol does for wannabe young artists, Botti said this and much more: "parents, leave your baby sitters home and take your kids to experience live music"

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour

Vinyl

While this is one of my favorite Beatles recordings I for the first time can recognize that it was a fairly poor reproduction or engineering. It is almost squeally in the treble. This is something I could expect from a Celine Dion recording or something. I wish they did a better job of this. Maybe a re-mastered copy would be better.

No issues with this one like I had with Magical Mystery Tour as detailed above. This recording is balanced, almost a bit laid back. One of my favorites.

This is how it goes with American Football I guess. I hate the Packers. I love it that my Bears beat them twice this year. At season's end the Bears were playing as good as any NFC team but they did not show up until the last two games of the season.

Now I have to root for the Packers. Just because I am from Dallas does not mean I have become a Cowboy fan. I assure you I was hoping the Giants would win. I do not think any NFC is all that good this year but the Packers are in the Bears division so for the playoffs I support them since the Bears are out. I am glad the Giants won so the Pack can play at home next week.

Ok, off topic, but I didn't bring it up. LOL

BTW anybody really think the Patriots are going to lose this year?

Charles Mingus - Tijuana Moods.

What kind of orchestra music classical or jazz? If classical are you looking for a large scale romantic (the period not the mood) piece or modern or perhaps something else altogether...???

Led Zeppelin - Record 3 from the 6 LP Box Set

Pink Floyd - Pigs

Pink Floyd - Division Bell

Roger Waters - Amused to Death

Tool - 10,000 Days

other odds and ends.

Except Zep, all were CDs.

I tweaked again, so out marches the Reference Library stuff. Actually Marsh did. She had me bring down my listening rocker recliner to the family room for our New Year's Eve party and substitute our foyer side chair for it. It sort of looks like a leather dining table chair without arms.

Yesterday she suggested taking the leather queen size sleeper sofa in the media room which faced the HT set up and rotate it and move it over to use for my 2-channel listening, since that is what the room is used for +90% of the time.

Well I did and it turned out to be another unexpected tweak which improved my system. Briefly, it is quieter, more detailed, with improved timing. Once again I am hearing background stuff another layer down which I had not heard until now.

Oh well, who knows how much is really on our recorded music. At least it didn't cost me anything this time either.

Art, you seem to be a big classical fan. Not sure if you like opera as well.
I am just getting my feet wet. I am actually looking for something very well recorded and very moving in both genre's, especially live.
Any suggestions?

Listening to:

Tomasz Stanko Quartet - Lontano

About ot put on:

Enrico Rava Quintet - The Words and the Days

I do love Classical music Patrick but not so much Opera as choral.

There is one contemporary Choral/Opera piece that I really love:

Osvaldo Golijov
La Pasion Segun San Marcos
Luciana Souza
Reynaldo Gonzalez Fernandez
Orquesta La Pasion
Schola Cantorum de Caracas
Cantoria Alberto Grau
Maria Guinard, Conductor and Director
Hanssler Classic

I attended the US premiere of this work with the original cast and orchestra at the Bach Festival in Eugene and it was spectacular. Interestingly I had just attended a Luciana Souza concert with her playing her wonderful Brazilian influenced jazz a few months earlier...she is a more wonderful artist than her recordings can capture.

For other classical recommendations just email me (please use my email and not the ecoustics PM system). And I will send you a few recs this upcoming weekend. My email is accessible through my long winded profile...lol! 8 o'clock tonight and my weekend is over, until then we have the music.

I like opera (except the singing part).

I was in Seattle for 5 days and heard live music 3 times!

Pancho Sanchez had a very good show.

Pearl Django had a guest guitar virtuoso from Sweden, Andreas Oberg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI2pv9Myrjg
Great show.

We had a great fiddler's trio play a private party. My family enjoyed it. It just has to be live and danceable to get the family to get on board.
Great fun.
