we have a mixing board at church and I have a laptop with ubuntu linux. I'm trying to adapt or match the line output with the mic jack on the laptop. I am recording with a command line util called ecasound. It records fine with a single individual, but when the levels crank up with music and singing, it simply overdrives the mic input.

I am sure that the level could be knocked down 20db and the impedances matched up. does anyone know what device might assist with this? I have searched a couple of the sites I generally visit for components and haven't found anything even close.
