I'm trying to put together a stereo system that more and more is starting to resemble a home theater system. I bought a Harman/Kardon HK 3485 (a stereo receiver) on the assumption that I would also be getting a Cambridge Audio CD Player, but that deal fell through. Increasingly, I'm finding that my viable (read: affordable) alternatives to the CD player are DVD/universal players that are HDMI ready (I'm looking at the Oppo DV-980H). But my receiver doesn't have digital connections of any kind, much less HDMI. I know that I can just use the analog connections, but since I'll likely have this fancy HDMI deal I was wondering if there is a way to run that cable into my receiver. I'm assuming that I'll need an outboard DAC that takes an HDMI connection. Do such devices exist, and can they be had for less than a fortune?
