Go to Wal-Mart and get some Kwik Seal kitchen&bath adhesive caulk and some teflon tape.....now put the adhesive caulk on the exterior and interior of the speaker's basket of the speaker driver....next cover it all with teflon tape....I did the same for the interior cut-out hole for the speaker drivers too...now let it dry over night and then put the speaker drivers back in and ENJOY! This tweak lowered the distortion alot and made the speakers much more transparent and three-dimensional ! This is a must try tweak!!! |

Why was your kit displaying so much distortion, Randy? You might want to address that before applying toilet adhesives to an engineered product. |

I put some more adhersive caulk over the teflon tape and everything sounds better now...sound best with adhersive caulk only@ Did you know that Westlake Audio puts adhersive caulk on all their speaker driver's baskets! If anyone here trys this tweak they will thank me over and over again. I'm amazed how good this tweak is! |

Actually, I have read this one... Steve over at decware recommends to DIYers to cover stamped steel baskets with a certain type of tape to control the distortion from the basket ringing. http://www.decware.com/newsite/mainmenu.htm?/zenspkr.htm&intro it is under "tweaking the drivers and cabinet" |

It's under buying stuff that doesn't friggin ring to start with, man. Randy enjoyed a lowering of his drastic distortion. |

If you can afford it....some folks don't have a bunch of money to drop on audio but want to listen to music. Ringing in my drivers ain't something I'm too worried about...I'm more concerned that Randy will get my address...lol! |

I took electrical tape and wraped it tightly around each steel strips of the basket two times and then wraped the electrical tape tighly with duck tape one time.....SOUNDS AMAZING!......... |

I can't wait til Randy tells me to push the dustcaps in on my speakers because "everyone knows they sound better that way". oh wait... I have tweeters where the dustcaps normally are. I wonder if this matters. |

I think we should tell Randy that pushing in the dustcaps of your drivers by using a dime minted in 1976 will greatly improve the frequency response. I doubt he knows about that tweak! Amazing!!!! |

LOL1 I'm sure that some tweaks may work to a certain degree but not to the extent that Randy claims...e.g. "amazing, best ever, a must try, etc." He was, after all, a firm believer in the "amazing little clocks" tweak. |

Here's another tweak I did to my DCM's...I put concrete on the front of the speaker drivers....mids and bass drivers. I took out the drivers and lightly coated each driver with concrete crack seal from home depot and let them dry for 24 hours. I'm not looking for any more speakers now!...................... |

You DO NOT put the concrete on the speaker drivers TOO THICK!! You ONLY put a VERY THIN COATING of CONCRETE on each midrange and bass drivers. The product is called Quikrete concrete crack seal from Home Depot |

ok, the "White Van" comment above is downright hilarious! I do see some merit in what our audio brother is saying. Its all about resonance and cabinet vibrations- makes sense that this would calm an unruly speaker. |

I found out that the stuff I put on my speaker cones IS NOT CONCRETE...its really a ACRYLIC POLYMER! http://www.quikrete.com/ProductLines/ConcreteCrackSeal.asp I really think the speaker cones is the WEAKEST LINK in a stereo system...and dampening the speaker cones with this stuff has been the best thing I have ever done in all the my years in this hobby!............ |

No Berny..I'm done with "tweaking" now! You all don't know what your missing by NOT "DAMPENING your speaker cones"......This tweak gets you as close to LIVE MUSIC as I have ever heard period! Everything sounds soooo REAL...its very hard to stop listening to music now...it sounds that good. I know most of you don't like me here but I have come across something that has to be heard to be believed! |

Randy, you're sharing what you've discovered. Thanks. You might want to address that before applying toilet adhesives to an engineered product. Nuck, I was reminded of a great section in "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" where the proud owner of a new BMW motorcycle discovered that its handle bars rotated in their brackets. His friend fixed the problem by inserting aluminium shims into the brackets to keep the handlebars fixed in place. The shims were cut from the tops of beer cans. The owner was nevertheless horrified, and vowed never to ride the motorcycle again. The bits of beer can had completely solved the problem, but destroyed his dream and illusion of a perfect machine. |

I remember it well, John. Again, if the dude bought a properly engineered and produced product, the can tops would not be necessary. Adds a bit to the 'beer budget' mentality. And yes, I get your point. Thank you, JA. Cheers. |

Wow Randy, What a great tip. Im not sure if this is the right type of cement, but it works fantastic. The diffrence is amazing. The driver sounded bright before, but now its more of a mono tone. Thanks for sharing. Getting ready to mix up the cement.
Adding Water.
Mixed up and set aside to dry.
Testing the cured cement woofer.

"Am I the only one who feels bad for this guy?" Yes! I used to and that's why I gave him an opportunity to show he is not just a store front. As you can clearly see...he didn't avail himself of it. Not that it would have proved anything it just would have been a nice good faith move...oh well. |

I used to kinda feel bad for the way people would knock him here (including me sometimes, in a harmless sort of way). Art gave him full opportunity to prove that he's the real thing and Randy declined to step up. AMAZING! |

I learned that if you use a holesaw, some pebbles and glue, a circular saw, some plumbing supplies, a soldering gun, a bag of construction material and a 7-iron, you can DIY a speaker that one person really likes. |

Randy, I'll tell you what, if you EVER put together a real speaker company, particularly one that markets a Quikrete sealant infused cone, I will be the first on line for an audition. Follow your dreams Randy, follow your dreams. |

I filled my PMC's with cement exactly as Randy suggests and Marc demonstrated. As a test track I put on the Bill Laswell remix of Bob Marley's 'Exodus' which has enough bass to blow a hole in your wall even without the cement tweak. Sadly, that's exactly what happened - on the first bass note entry two cement projectiles (with the woofers still attached) shot across the room, straight through the rear wall and into the street below! Fortunately I hadn't 'toed-in' the PMC's or else I'm not sure I would be writing this to you now. I'm wondering if this may have voided my Warranty though? |

File a lawsuit against Randy Warren for putting ideas in your head. He should be liable for that |

I put my two Arivas in two separate coffins, filled them up with liquid, neon ultra-bass-amplifier. Then I hung them vertically under the ceiling. Gosh, I could bang my head up there in bathroom. Its now a through-the-ceiling ultra-bass-amplified system. |

Ok this is a big joke this thread it can't be right who the hell coats speakers which already prolly sound good in concrete? This is a joke right? I mean is Randy all dumb and trying to make us ruin our speakers? |

The speakers sounded good before, but with the concrete, they sound even better. More "solid". |
