I have a Yamaha HTR 5730 receiver and it's rated at 6 ohms. My friend just gave me some JBL speakers rated at 8 ohms. If I connect the speakers up, will it damage anything? Thanks for your help.

No issues there, Byron.
But if the receiver gets hot, or worse, shuts down, the lessons will commence.

All things being equal, a higher rating makes the speaker easier to drive. So you should have no problems there. Of course it depnds a bit on the speakers, but the nominal 8-ohm rating means they don't go very low (which is harder for an amp to drive).

Regards,
Frank.
