Picked up a set of these used. Was looking for a while and found a set of these for a good price. They sound good on my HK AVR 445, but I know I can get way more out of them. What would be the best amp 1k or less to power these.  |

I really like the sound of the NAD.
I haven't heard the Outlaw, but it is very well reviewed. |

Is solid state the way to go over tube? I did hear a NAD at a local dealer, I liked it. I really like how the music sounded separated. Would the mcintosh stuff be alot better? I will be using my receiver as a pre amp until more funds become available. |

Not to mention that you can buy the MAC, keep it for 10-years, and sell it for (at least) what you paid for it. |

McIntosh house sound is not your typical "solid state" sound. It is more similar to tubes than most transistor gear can manage. It is also highly reliable equipment. Tubes are best left for a second or third purchase since they are not as easy for the novice to get right as solid state can be.
Do some research, listen to a few things - mostly live music - and then go out to consider tube amplifiers after you have a very good pre amp and source. You may find tubes are best suited to use in your pre amp rather than your power amplifier. As is, the two units I listed are a receiver and an integrated amplifier. Both are complete units that would not use your HK as a pre amplifier. These are better units than most basic power amps you will find and make for a synergistic combination rather than mixing and matching receiver/pre amp and power amplifier. They both have the ability to be used as a separate power amplifier or pre amp. These are much wiser choices, IMO, than buying a jumble of a system that you chose due to price alone.
Just as a note, the Mac's I listed are not remote control units. They are older units and you'll have to get up from your chair to adjust volume. But you'll own McIntosh. 'nuff said!
