Just hooked one of these up to my PC based system in the basement:

http://www.diykits.com.hk/dac_super_pro_dac707.htm

I am actually pretty stoked. I auditioned it playing Machine Head, from "The Blackening" album. The opening clean guitar from "Farewell to Arms" was much clearer than before, I hear could the individual notes being picked on the guitar. I could also hear the vocalists breaths in between phrases. Not to mention the crunch when the distortion kicks in on the axes.

A worthy addition to my relatively cheap system.

Its a good addition to a cheapo universal dvd for 2 channel audio redbook playback IMO.

Link is dead. I'm interested since I use a PC for my 2.0 system. Does it have a digital coax in?

Cool. Audiomagus is in the States, so it'll be cheaper for you to order from them.

David,

Are you still enjoying this DAC? I'm still looking for one and I am considering the Super Pro.

Do you know anything about Non Oversampling DAC's? The more I read about equipment the more I realize I know nothing which makes if difficult to make a decision. I know what speakers I want (Evo2-8's) and Integrated Amp (NAD C325BEE) and the missing link from my PC to the NAD is the DAC. I'm like you in that I want the best sound I can get but the lowest price possible. The NAD and the EVO's fit the bill but I'm unsure about which DAC to go with.

Hey Mord. Yup, I like the DAC still. You really can't go wrong with the price I paid. I have two of them in fact.

I don't know what a non-oversampling DAC is, but I'm sure some of the more technical members here would. I would recommend giving the DAC a try, if you don't like it you can always sell it for pretty close to what you pay for it.

I've had mine for a few years now and still think they sound great.

Non oversampling DAC is the same as a player which does not uprate.
Redbook only, 44.1 and 16/20 bit.

I got my Super Pro yesterday and I'm listening to it now. Is there a burn in period for DAC's?

I don't think so. I noticed a difference right away with mine.

What are your thoughts?

I'm impressed. For $110 I think it has a clean sound. I haven't noticed anything that didn't sound right. I am also using a new NAD 325 and I'm not sure if there is a burn in period for it. I've never used an external DAC before so I have nothing to reference. I was using an HK avr with digital out from PC to receiver.

Yeah, that's true, eh? You have 2 new pieces of gear to get used to.

What do think of the new system altogether?

David,

It sounds awesome. Now, I'm a newbie to this audiophile stuff so I don't have a great vocabulary for describing what I'm hearing. I don't think the speakers have sounded better. The soundstage is deeper and broader, there is a richness that wasn't there before and instruments sound life like. I'm very pleased. Of course everything I read about this DAC has been positive.

Now, I'm ordering the Evo's. I can't pass up a speaker that good for that cheap. I will sell my HK receiver and the Diamonds to offset the cost of the new NAD and Evo's. STO has the Evo's on sale again for $299 a pair and I should be able to get close to what I paid for the Diamonds so it's a no brainer upgrade for about $100.
