What would be your recommendation of CD player for Krell KAV400 and Nautilus 805 (old version) in the 1000 to 1500 range? Thanks a lot Eduardo |

The usual recommendation for a grand. BUT... A Banchmark DAC1 can be had with mods for a good price, then it comes down to a transport. Way under a grand. Plus cables. |

. So, you don't intend to audition any players or speak with a dealer? We get to tell you what to buy? |

Oh Boy! Buy my used one then. Just kidding, Ed. What does your present player(and/or system) not do right? Timing? Rythm? OOmph? |

I second Nuck, Dac 1 (with a USB input). Someone reliable once told be that he could not tell the difference between a FMJ 36 and a DAC 1 with a cheap DVD player as a transport. He had some very good associated gear. I guess with a good transport and a DAC one you could get a way lot more and are future proof just in case you want to use your comp for music few years down the line. Sorry to suggest this once again - but worth considering. I would also look at Quad CDP2, excellent and time tested. and the new Cambridge 840c might be slightly higher that your budget but can be used as a DAC as well in the future. Cheers |

No Nuck, I get your used one! Man they go fast on AudiogoN. So does Rotel 1072. One just went the 1st few hours that it went on there. That Saturn is hanging on at $1700 though. |

Eduardo, the Rega Apollo is unbeatable at the price point in the US. In Canada, it is priced a bit higher, but still nobody does it better. Check pricing there. I have many source, and the Rega is the best purchase(so far), as long as you play only redbook cd's. If you play hdcd, then that is a different matter. Altogether. |
