Jeff Tweedy of Wilco is a genius as is his former counterpart Jay Farrar of Son Volt. They were the creative power behind a band called Uncle Tupelo. When that band split they went different directions, Jay stayed along the lines of Uncle Tupelo but took it to the next level and Jeff has taken pop to the next level with Wilco. Each album gets better and more profound. Wilco is one of the most important bands of our times, enjoy! |

I wouldn't do that to Wilco. I listen to my titles pretty infrequently so That I can have that fresh, blown away feeling everytime I listen. Wilco is interesting enough to merit a few early listens just to take it all in and then ruminate on it awhile before listening again. |

BTW the Beck Mutations cd is one heck of a good sounding piece. Could be a reference.

Honestly , I grab a handful of recent listens that cover a full spectrum of sound and style and head out. I really don't have a reference libary most everthing I have is something I love and my reference is live music...really I do understand what you are asking and I'm not trying to be obtuse but I really don't have set reference music. I will occasionally refer to a piece as a reference but for me that simply means an awesome recording that has a sound that reminds me of the real thing or maybe not of the real thing but that envelopes me in it's sound world. I have a lot of those! |

ok, Art. Obtuse it is.
No, I understand what you're saying. My favorites seem to change as well. Just ask my kids...every week Daddy has a new favorite song. And I think it's somehow related to the quality of the recording. Although sometimes a track will hit me lyrically. Loudon Wainwright III is good at that.
I remember as a kid, I had an uncle that had an ENDLESS lp collection. He was BIG into music...all kinds of music. This was back when I was 10 or 12 years old....seems like every song that came on the radio he would say, "I love this song". I remember thinking back then, "How could he possibly love ALL of these songs." Now I know.
Mike...I have to get that Live Krall cd. I have heard nothing but good things about it. How's the lp collection coming along? |

Quality of recording regardless of the how pleasant it is is wholly unrelated to how much I love the MUSIC...though I occasionally become familiar with a new piece or artist due to the quality of the recording.
BTW I used to love to dance and sing and act a fool for my kids - they loved it...my wife still does. Thank God for our loved ones. |

Like bunnies. I am buying em faster than I can listen to them. Just tonight I was looking for some I thought I bought from Music Direct a couple of months back and can't find them. Argh...
Today I was going over some LPs with a dealer I visited recently and realized he is big into "collector" LPs. I had to pare down my wish list considerably, from like $1,200 to under $200. I will post that buy when I finalize and receive delivery.
Almost at the same time I am talking to him my daughter calls to follow up with me on my Father's Day gift of LPs. She is at a Record Collector store and picks up PF - The Wall, PF - Harvest (never heard of that cover?), another double LP Floyd, Steppenwolf - Gold, Tommy James and the Shondells Greatest Hits - $30 for the lot. If I was smart I should have seen if the place she was at had the stuff I wanted to order from the first guy.
Funny that today I get asked about my LPs as this was almost as good as the day I stopped in that out of the way shop in Joplin, Mo. or the day that a local fellow sold my 700 LPs for $100. |

I was given a couple of hundred LP's this week...condition was atrocious...kept 2 dumped the rest...bummer. Can't believe how poorly folks take care of their music!
I did find a fantastic source for quality used records though.....goodnight! |

My comment is in regards to a recording pulling me into an artist or band or genre that I don't otherwise particularly care for. If the music grooves, well then, it grooves. |

Ears are none to happy with me however I am really pleased with how musical the 2nd LP played.
Judas Priest and Alice Cooper have to be played at Nuck levels, no way around it.

I am officially on vacation !
Starting with Regina Carter "Rhythms of the Heart".
At this time I would like to say Hail to my alma mater Oregon State Beavers on our back to back National Championship Baseball seasons...I was was able to greet the fella's when they made it back to Corvallis from Omaha....Go Beavs!!!!!!

Today is the memorial for my friend, some of ya know of what I speak...my heart is not heavy...it's all ok.
Contractors finished building the fence that blew down during the December wind storm, they were on time and did a fabulous job.....signs of a miracle....I'm looking for Jesus in the cedar grain...meanwhile Regina sounds great  . |

I placed the MonitorAudio 8's pretty well now.
I ran up the power pretty good, on the Wilbur's.
Mike, you are right, they can soak up some power for a 89db 8ohm.
Thankfully, the Classe kit is alive and well.

Been doin' yard work this weekend and spinnin' vinyl to break in the P5...my lord it's sounding good.
This week off to Seattle for my birthday (4th of July), do little record store hoppin' and walkin' in the park.
Listened to everything from Supertramp to Schumann this weekend, all vinyl!!! |

I have family in town for the next week so my day has been spent being Marsh's servant, houseboy, cleaning woman, and gofer all in one, getting ready for their arrival.

Mike, there is no chance that I will not request that album spin on the Linn. Did you read the liner notes?
Recorded in 16 days at 'the sugar shack'.
Also a thank-you to the Rolling Stones for never taking the living room out of the music.
Some fav's are for different reasons, that album just does it for me in so many ways.
Another selection that just gets louder and louder as it goes along. Well, as the first song goes along, then it stays loud, hehe.
How about 'scarecrow', do you have a copy of that one?
Smalltown, Rain on the scarecrow, between a laugh and a tear, all very solid.
If you find 'Justice and Independance' spin it for Kenny Aranoff's outstanding drumming on that! |
