Holy smokes. Close but no cigar.

Some of the higher ups were in town this week and went out on Wednesday here in Dallas. The ended up at a Hooters. In walks who other than Joss Stone.

She was the opening act at the first night opening of "The House of Blues" which is right across the street from the Hooters and stopped in for a pre-performance snack. They said she was real friendly, took pictures with folks, signed autographs and everything.

Later they saw her leave her bus in a short silver sequined dress and heels for her performance.

Buzzards should have asked me to join them. They take me all over Denver and nothing happens. One night in Dallas and I miss everything.

After filling in the blanks on her 3 CDs and performance at the Grammy's I suspect the fellow I spoke with about her has already bought her latest CD.

From her official web site bio;

Joss Stone has sold more than 7.5 million albums worldwide; been nominated for four Grammy Awards; appeared onstage with James Brown, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Patti Labelle, Mavis Staples, Donna Summer, and Smokey Robinson; sat for an interview with Oprah Winfrey; starred in two major ad campaigns for the Gap; and performed for more than 200,000 people at the 2005 Live 8 Concert in London - all before reaching the ripe old age of 19.

http://www.jossstone.com/

I will never forget her performance at the 2005 Grammys when she did a tribute to Janis Joplin with Melissa Etheridge. She is currently touring in the US.

Death Cab For Cutie "Plans" Premium Vinyl Pressing HQ - 180

I was mostly ignorant of this group only buying the album after seeing the CD on sale everywhere. They really produce a quality product and I find that this LP was just waiting for my system and visa versa.

I don't know if anybody else would even like this album or not but "Plans" is one of the rewards to our little obsession.

"Sem..The Pikes.
She ain't pretty?"

Sorry Nuck, but not real familiar with the Pikes. Saw this album in a used vinyl shop north of Chicago back in the late '80s and bought it on a whim. Transferred it to cassette many years ago and just happened to grab the tape last night and "rip" it to my hard drive. More as an experiment than anything else.

That reminds me, I don't get out fishing as much as I used to......Note to self - need to slow down and remember what's really important in life.

addendum to previous post.

I went to Preservation Hall and listened to the Jazz there. This is not the sound you get from their CD. It was recorded at Sea-Saint Studios in New Orleans. I had to go look it up as although it was about 12 years ago, it did not sound right, too clean if you know what I mean. Those who had been there would know what I mean. However this CD did get my toe tapping and is very very enjoyable.

Mike, I had a bit of that southern thing going in some of today's beauties as well. I recall seeing the Outlaws with Steppenwolf in a tavern back in the mid 80's sometime. They had like 12 guitarists up on stage....ok, maybe it was only 3 but, man, they let it all out.

Todays juice:

Marillion- Misplaced Childhood
Tab Benoit- Nice and Warm
The Outlaws- Best Of
Gabbiano Chianti

Amy Winehouse- Back to Black
Boney James- Body Language
Boney James- Seduction

I can't get enough of Amy's album. I hope she is here to stay. While the recording quality isn't the best, she is a refreshing change (IMHO) compared to the mass produced pop that comes out of the music industry today. This is the first album that I have been able to really enjoy like this in quite a while.

Wish I was at Stu's yesterday afternoon.

Dancing the speakers around the room, bits an pieces of a lot of CDs, finally using Dylan's Lay Lady Lay (vinyl) to set the toe in...

Pink Floyd - Animals CD
Procol Harum's Greatest Hits Song #1 - Whiter Shade of Pale - Vinyl.

Figured it was a good place to end the night as family came home from work.

Net of dancing with speakers; stronger weightier vocals, less shrill in high end, lower floor for musical deep bass.

4 hours non-stop

Aimee Mann's "Lost in Space"
Arguably just as good as "Bachelor no. 2

Ryan Adams - Nashville basement tapes
A bootleg, Adams solo with songs written before or at the time "Heartbreaker" came out, many songs are better than those on his great debut (solo)album.
Unfortunately I miss the 2nd part of this bootleg where Gilian Welch and David Rawlings join him...no longer downloadable from the internet.

Richard Buckner's debut album "Bloomed", his most traditional album, with the beautiful "Mud".

Followed by Patty Griffin, followed by Patty Griffin and followed by Patty Griffin, never get tired of this lady.

Roger Waters - Amused to Death

Having finally found the mother of all sweet spots for my speakers I am able to listen to this CD, perhaps all music in general, we'll see, at such a low level and still find detail and precision I had not thought possible. Some of the music on this CD provides a 180 degree soundstage with my new found speaker placement. No scotch tonight and I do not do drugs.

Speaking of sweet spots I have an experience to relate this weekend, not enough time to write it before the weekend.

Last weekend I did something to my system that improved it's performance by about 100%...it sounds so much better that I find it hard to believe...more on it later.

MW, Amused To Death certainly isn't for everybody but I really like it. It's an incredible recording.

Art, can't wait.

Fans of Porcupine Tree - A friend of mine recently ordered two discs from a new band (at least new to me), called Abigail's Ghost called "Selling Insincerity" He gave me one to check out. I've given it one spin so far and can't help but notice a strong PT influence, along the lines of the last three PT releases. Really giving my sub a workout.

My new-to-me Bryston B60 is scheduled to be delivered to me today. With a signature required, I'll probably miss the delivery guy and have to pick it up at UPS tomorrow, but no big deal. Anyway... What should I spin first?

A CD on the Apollo?

Some Vinyl on the Xpression?

After I narrow that one down, which title?

Various and sundry organ works for me tonight. If you guys could recommend any CD's that primarily feature organ music, it would be much appreciated. Style is unimportant generally speaking, as I just love the sound it makes, and I'd like to hear what a good musician/composer can do with it.

Any of the Kevin Bowyer recordings of Bach music on Nimbus Records will be excellent. He plays the Marcussen organ of Sct. Hans Kirke, Odense, Denmark. Both the playing and sound are excellent. I have 3 discs in that series.

Now that June is here I can start gearing up for the greatest music festival I've ever been to.

http://www.summerfest.com/

I guess I've seen a couple hundred bands over the years at this 10 day event. A good time is always had by all.

Where else in the world do you get that much music for so little Stryvn?

Maybe Memphis in May.

Have a great time, and give us the whole rundown!
