Hey Everyone!!! I'm a newbie to the forum and am having a problem with a jammed disc changer on my Pioneer PDR-W839 cd recorder/player. The 3-disc changer is empty and I'm not able to open it using any of the 3 tray buttons..it just clatters away and tries to open with no success..then finally gives me an E2 error code on the display. Anyone out there in audiophile-land have any experience with this particular problem and know of a self-fix..or am I doomed to taking it to a local repair shop here in Honolulu Hawaii or sending it to a service center? Any advice to guide me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for lending an ear and taking the time to reply! |

Hey CR: Bummer huh? No solution yet..though someone did suggest I look for a pinhole and insert a pin while unit is powered-on to reset it..but I have yet to find any pinhole anywhere on the exterior. I'll post any additional info on this suggestion when I receive it. In the meantime..good luck with your 839. |

Hey CR: Received more detailed info on possible fix to our PDR-W839 changer problem which goes like this "look for a pinhole in the area of the CD tray to insert a pin..similar to the same pinhole you see on a PC's cd player to eject the tray manually. If there is none, then try this: Open the cover and find the motor that, when turning, performs the tray ejection. Then, turn that motor by hand until the entire tray (or cartridge) is ejected. Then power up and observe the events." This is word-for-word exactly as given to me. I still don't see any pinhole on my unit's exterior and I did remove the cover once to look around inside and don't recall seeing any motor(s) accessible by hand without removing the cd changer assembly. I guess this suggestion sorta gives us an idea of what to try as a possible solution..with no guarantee (of course) it'll work..and depends on whether or not you feel up to doing a bit of disassembly on your unit. I'm not sure if I wanna try that myself..and won't have time until the weekend anyway..so in the meantime I'll leave it up to you to try if you like. If you do and it works..can you post and advise exactly what you did? Take care and good luck! Regards: Karl |

I've just fixed this problem on a mchine - it's very simple. Take the cover off the unit and then look at the left-hand side of the machanism (as viewed from the front of the unit). There's a tower of four cogs under a white plastic snap-on cover. The shaft they're on is supposed to go up&down to select one of the three trays, but on our mech. the funny-shaped wheel had popped off it's fork-shaped thingy. You just have to pop the white cover off & rearrange things... See photo
