George, everything that is made today is outdated when it leaves the door. The Mac will do what it does now for a long long time. |

Seeing as how Mac gear from the 60's is still readily available and isn't out dated, I'd put very little stock in what you were told. |

. Who told you the Mac would be "out dated"? The person selling the unit or someone trying to sell you something else? |

I think George has been put on the HT carousel here. George, if you want quality sound reproduction, Mac is where to start. 'specially with some Bary White and sweet wine. |

George, how did you hear the two? A side by side is the truest choice. Nice choices, BTW. |

OT I'll probably be asking this until I actually try (hear) it... but what does an awesome speaker on a cheap component or vice verse sound like? A super expensive component of the chain and the rest bargain basement or how does a super high-end line of components react when you put the cheapest thing you can there. 100g cables between a $4 Cd player on cheap batteries and a 2" Bose driver (sealed, like .0001ft³ box). I just had to ask. You know I'm always wondering "What If?" OT OFF McIntosh and Lexicon both ROCK. I'd be torn between them too (if they were free). |

. Call McIntosh, they are very friendly and helpful people who will give you a straight answer about upgrades. I hate to say it but selling off of someone else's product is a common theme in high end audio and seldom respresents the best way to serve a client. Quite honestly, there should be no reason to disparage the other product if yours is truly as good or better. Maybe I'm misreading the words here, but whether this salesperson has been giving you good advice up to now or not, I would always be wary of anyone who can't sell their own product on its own merits. Informing a client of a well know shortcoming of another product is quite different. Unfortunately, few of us on this forum invest in Mac's HT gear so we're not up to date on their HT products. Call Mac and also Harman International for information on the Lexicon component also, both companies have a well deserved reputation for customer service. Get the information direct from the manufacturer not from a self serving salesperson. . |

Lexicon sold a lot of gear that was actually re-badged Bryston gear. Any possibility of this being a re-badged Bryston? In case you haven't heard of Bryston, it's also top quality and great sounding gear as well George. |

Then again, Bryston doesn't make receivers, so the likely hood of it being one is pretty low. |

Note: This is only a "receiver" with the addition of the optional AM/FM Tuner. You would think that for $6600 they could throw in the tuner? But if you're buying this thing (I wish it was me!), what's a few more bucks for a tuner? Jan, did you happen to get, or get to read, the new book, McIntosh "...For the love of music..." by Ken Kessler? |

From what I understand it's $150, only available through McIntosh & dealers, and is limited edition. I imagine if i pick-up a copy, I can sell it for for at least what I bought it for a month or two from now (at 300 pages it might take me that long to get through it). Jan, you ever consider writing a book? |

it could be like a John Irving novel, but involving McIntosh, small autos and a strange yet involving plotline about an online forum. Still working on the bear. |
