I'm listening to it mainly because we're playing it in band and I think it's cool (tuba has the best part!) It's jazzy and the band hasn't really played anything jazzy before so our director is trying to help everyone who can't play it right in sync. |

Hey guys. If you've been wondering where I've been, I was at Spring Camp at Church. It was fun, it was. That's not really what the point of it was though. I'm sure you know what the point was haha.
I'm just listening to the local variety station and lying around resting. We're on Spring Break from school and it's a great time to relax and just wind down.
At the camp, we first got there and went to service. Man, it was LOUD! It didn't sound too good playing live for about a minute, but they let us take a break and we came back and it sounded much better (good sounding). It was 6 tall JBL speakers hanging from the high ceiling above and 4 JBL subs (15") down by the band. Today when we left they turned it WAY up and played some sorta techno style music. Man that was A LOT of deep bass for such a large area. When I went outside I could still hear that BOOM BOOM BOOM (deep BOOM BOOM BOOM that is) from the gazebo (however you spell it) and it was great. It was powered by Crown amps for those wondering.
As for the sound system in the pavillion (big, tall pavillion), it was 2 4-ohm Klipsch Pro speaks with 15" drivers powered by a QSC 1500a (500w x2). What surprises me is that it wasn't all that loud and they blew the midrange and tweeter so we had dull sounding music (wasn't the best in SQ to begin with). They just decided to play bass heavy tracks and turned it up loud after that. It was a lot louder than I thought the 15" drivers could get. I went up close and noticed they were around Xmax and so I guess that's why they were that loud, they were at their limits!
I just told you that because they're speakers. That's just the setup at the camp (church-owned, BIG church). At the church, there are 16 speakers (brand?) hanging up above and 16 18" subs (8 on the left, 8 on the right) around the place. That's just 9-12. In 6-8 grade we have 6 speaks up above and only a lonely 15" sub.
In the MAIN sanctuary...well let me just say I was sitting up around the back (maybe 1500ft) I still had to cover my ears and the bass was CRAZY during the Christmas concert. Thanks if you read. |

I did buy but have yet to watch Eric Clapton "Friends Live 1986" and "Crossroads Guitar Festival".

Adikt is the only Linn cartridge which has a replaceable stylus. Considered upgrading but I really listen to classic rock about 50% of the time so switching didn't seem to be the best plan. |

Meatloaf...well...
The John Labatt Centre (the keg) is a proven commodity for concerts. Seating 8800 for stage concerts, and 3800 as a more intimate venue.The keg was designed and built as a concert venue, as the Mem Cup Champion London Knights can play jes about anywhere(and win).
We were seated 6th row, performers right-of-center.
The first item of note was that the event was being filmed for posterity, or a dvd. This occasion merited 3 large swinging booms, often inches above our heads, granted the cameras were small, but the booms were boomy.
The sound, fortunately, was not.
Meat used the terific array's owned by the JLC, and to very good effect. Only a few stage short-stacks were added(for the guitarists), and no feedback monitors were at the foot of the stage. This may turn into a pity later.
I don't remember the names of the band. The young lady who opened(and sang duet with Meat) sounded shrill and mousy. She was accompanied by the band's near virtuoso guitarist, however, which made my trip to the $10 beer stand palatable.
Meat opened with 'Paradise' and the band was well timed, lively in the play(if not in motion) and game to go. Meat came on after 8 bars of rep to a standing O, introduced the song, and let go.
Yes, I like how he sings. Yes, when I get drunk, I sing loud and long, even wanting to be 60, fat, and loud.
One out of 3 ain't bad.
However, Meatloaf was singing to another rhythm line than the one we were listening to.
Remember the stage monitors of old? The ones that played back live sound to the performers? Well the sound guy was playing something else to Meat, because I have never heard such poor timing in my life! His earpiece was playing something else entirely, I fear. Meat picked it up on his own, it seems, after quite obviously seeing the looks of bewilderment in the crowd. At one point, after making gestures that he was A: having difficulties hearing, or
B: having a seizure,
Meat dropped the earpiece and continued on.
The kid singing the duet was more muted than as an opener, and was acceptable. Her tiny shorts and top, made out like a DC cheerleader were OK, too. The interplay between the 60 yr old Meat and the 22 yr old kid was scripted to the song, but somehow a bit uncomfortable to a lot of 40 somethings in the crowd.
This young woman, and the othe female singer were both smokin' hot.
The show rolled on, and the band stayed right on track. The band is exceptionally good, particularly the young chubby drummer.
The lead guitarist is a wonder of strings. Quite honestly the best player, for this kind of rock, that I have ever heard.
Meat et al carried on with the show, looking for vocal timing.
Two out of 3 was Meat's best showing of the night, and he stuck it. I can't say that for any other tune.
Oh, one of the new songs had pyro with it. 6 Plumes of seemingly open air gas, like huge Bunsen burners blowing off in time, like 18 times, in unison.
I do not know how hot it was on stage, but the 6th row got an instant flowing barrage of heat each time the valves were opened. A lot of short hair in the band. The drummer might have been served on a large bun. The blonde too.
We enjoyed the night out, but it was a school night, with a 5am alarm...bummer.

Glad you enjoyed the show Nuck...
The last show I attended used L Acoustics D V-Dosc lines, and damn those things can sure fill a room with clean, clear,rich and loud sound. When I saw the size of the cabs, I almost laughed until I heard them. They are small (have 8 inch woofers), but mighty. It was the first time I have heard those cabs, but I was quite impressed.

I am onto Amy Winehouse. She really has a winner with her latest album. It is kind of difficult to describe, and has a soul-jazz vibe to it. Her voice is raw and natural, and has great range. I have been listening to it ever since I finished Diana Krall's "girl" |

Sem, did you see that Boz Skaggs has a new album with Bruce Hornsby?
They both took off in new directions for a while, and recorded a far away album.
Only one song with mandolins, by the reviews.
Might be worth checking out. |

A good friend of mine came by recently and I couldn't find any Elvis to spin. However found "The Essential Elvis Presley" on CD at Costco a couple of days ago, 2 disc compilation. "Old Kentucky Rain" sounds wonderful, listening to "Polk Salad Annie" as I post this. Nice recording. |

It's got swing, it's got jive and I can dance to it, Dick, 9.3
I really dig Colin James.
Highly recommended.
Older stuff was dictated by Columbia, but they signed him to 7 records fully of his own volition. A blank stack of 7 records to do with what he pleased. The older stuff does not suck either.
Think '5 long years' really loud. The opening crash of that song is a killer.
Slam!
All very good recordings. Very dynamic. Perfect for the Rotel 1072. Expressive attack, very little decay dwell. The recordings are that good. |

They're probably the worst band ever, and are proud of it. They started in the late 80's (I think 88 or so). These guys are so bad, that they're actually entertaining for a few minutes. Their song titles, antics, and intentional contraversy are better than the actual songs.
