It's on my wish list for my next order from CD Universe, Gavin. I heard samples and liked it. Yeah, her name confuses me also. As for Sade, apart from a couple of old cd's, I have her Live DVD and she, like the rest of the band is just terrifc. It was early nineties I think, and she was the most sen-suous, exotic female artist with real talent I have ever witnessed.

Have you heard Josh Groban's "Awake" album yet? It is very eclectic (well, as eclectic as a josh album can be), and IMHO is his best yet. It does not flow particularly well, but each song has a distinct personality. The lush orchestrations are mixed with more modern sounding pieces.

His voice has matured further, sounding stronger and more resonant. The utilization of the falsetto occurs more often in this release when compared to the earlier ones.

Also, I have yet to hear that clipping distortion that I pointed out to you that was in the "Closer" album.

That Sade Lovers Live dvd is VERY good. All musicians are good at their craft/ quality musicians and Sade's voice speaks for itself. She is incredible.

Another dvd I like that has quality musicians is the Bruce Hornsby dvd Three Nights On The Town. Recorded in NYC in 2004. Check out Gonna Be Some Changes Made......excellent cut.

I have both the Sade "Lovers Live" DVD and CD... she is amazing.

Lovers Rock is a great CD as well. She essentially picked up right where she left off. You can listen to any of her CD's in any order, and they just "fit". She was ahead of her time in the '80's, and still sounds great today IMHO.

Bought John Legend(Once Again) today, am playing it now, cool music, wonderful voice....the guy brought home 2 grammys, if I'm not mistaken....
The recording was very good too, volume knob was at 8 o'clock and yet the sound was full...

John Legend is from my area in Springfield Ohio,he had like 3 free concerts during the summer/Fall months of 06,he's damn good live and he's alot better than I thought he was on the Piano.One thing I like about him is he doesent ever forget where he came from he may be the most down to earth superstar I've ever met.And he's a big Madden fan,as is everyone in my area,he's regularly back in Springfield playing Madden with all his friends or whoever wants to play he's damn good to.

Disc 2 better than disc one. By a tad...fabulous recording, the Lings have been toed 10 deg now, and the image snapped right in. I have waited to try till noone is around, as I whapped the power knob.
The amp does not do high levels very well. It does do 3/4 quite nicely.
The Ling's still surprise me.
The delivery of these single driver enclosure is indeed, a beautiful thing.

The big dog is warming up, it could be just about anything.

Thriller - Michael Jackson Title song. Ok, you said it was worth a listen and it was. The engineering was awesome, a bit like Roger Waters does his tracks. I really appreciated the presentation but did not care for the music too much.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers - Bad to the Bone. Queued up the title song and blissfully listened to the whole LP. Not much of a Thorogood fan but really enjoyed the guitar throughout.

MW, yep, the Jackson album is a sonic bruiser.
The music, not so much.

Another MJ song(don't know which album) is 'smooth criminal'.

It was redone by the band Alian Ant Farm, and is quite possibly the loudest but clean recording I have ever run.

This guy had not heard of the Tragically Hip, so I lent him my best of, and he flipped.

Turned him on to Max Webster(a bit esoteric), but he dug Universal Juveniles, Battlescar in particular, and the guy is gonna buy a stereo now.

I got a great set of headphones a few weeks ago that have pretty much changed everything for me. I can honestly say that I'm enjoying MUSIC in my home more now than I have in a very long time.

Maybe it was my horrible room acoustics?
Maybe my system is a little too laid back and polite?

All I know is, I'm hearing a lot of things that weren't there before, not to mention that I feel truly immersed in the music.

I was very let down by DSOTM. It sounds very good, but its not the 'Reference' to me that it once was.

A few great recorded and more importantly, enjoyable songs -

Tuesday's Gone - Metallica featuring a bunch of other people such as John Popper and Les Claypool. The original is one of my favorites, this version is a lot better IMO. Recorded live for a radio show, released on the CD Garage, Inc. This song alone may justify buying the entire CD. Their cover of Turn The Page by Bob Seger is also very good.

Two others that have been on heavy rotation, though not the best recording quality are Into the Mystic and Moondance by Van Morrison.

Andre, that 'yes' album was the first(?) DDD almum in new release.
I had a vinyl copy and gave it to a family friend with the old Dual505 and a hundred other albums.
In retrospect, it was rather compressed, and 'Brothers in arms" from Dire Straits was a far better recording.
Van Halen's 1984 was/is just OK, OU812 is better, though not the best music.

Any other rec's on early cd?

Man, the LP just explodes off of my Linn, especially with the changes I made today to how I plug in my amps..

Sade on vinyl has to be every bit as good (but probably better) than stryvn and Gavin have heard on DVD and CD.

Then there's still the Rega Apollo which delivers Dixie Chicks "Not Ready to Make Nice" with perfection... I could hear the "hurt" come through Natalie Maines' vocals.

Went to see Josh Groban's opening show for the 2007 world tour this past saturday.

For a show in an arena (small, 5100 seats), the sound was excellent for having to be pumped through a huge line array system with 3 arrays per side (main, side fill diagonal offstge, side fill to the direct side of the stage) These all utilized different size cabs. As far as I know, no subs were used. The mains were ran full range down to about 40Hz.

The FOH really knew what he was doing. This was the 4th time I have seen him, and it was by far the best (and best sounding).

They were using JBL VerTEC cabs. The only other shows I have been to that sounded just as good (or better) was a Diana Krall show which used MeyerSound lines, and a Sarah Brightman show which used Nexo lines.

If subs were not utilized, the large verTEC cabs used in the main array that covered the floor and back of the theatre have good bass response in the 40-45Hz area. Subs may have been under the stage though.

Of the nine concerts I saw last weekend the only one that really didn't sound very good was Dave Douglas. Soem including Geri Allen, Tomasz Stanko, Charles Lloyd and Trygve Seim sounded outstanding.

Counting Crows "August and Everything After" in the Apollo.

Oh Mama...the kids don't have school tomorrow so Mrs. Stryvn took Stryvn Jr, Stryvn III and Stryvnette to friends house to play. What a treat for Stryvn......we can jam in Joe's Garage...we didn't have no dope or lsd but a coupla quartsa beer would fix it so the intonation would not offend your ear and the same old chords goin' over'n over.....Frank Zappa time for Daddy

well, if you can get past the silly lyrics, the music really is fantastic. Frank could bend a string. Sometimes it's all that will satisfy. The Shut Up N Play Yer Guitar albums are a treat.

I listened to whole bunch of good music this weekend but didn't have time to share as I was elbows deep in Dawn dishwater cleaning cd's (25 hrs this weekend).

Doesn't it seem odd that so many of us, spending time with the gear, chatting here and so on, that we have partners that may not, or do not have interest in it?
Just the ability to twist the loud knob occasionally and loosen the drywall screws is a source of simple giggles for me, my wife, not so much.

Oh, also. I did post out the cables(again) with the box checked as gift. The extra delay came as I was negotiating with the vendor over price, which he admitted was high. i had to hold them in case of return, but he offered me a credit nd I countered with double the credit toward a tube amp sometime soon.
So the cables are on the way Stu, Mike, Jan and Art.
I also included a cd to Mike and Stu. I made one for Stryvn and sent them.
I am waiting for Nout's addy in the Netherlands.

So, it's about the recording.
I copied the originals to file, WMA. I eq'd a couple of tracks, and resaved. I burned one disc Kid rifled my black cd-r's...Grrr),and listened to the whole thing.
I then created a file of that cd, in EQ'd form and proceeded to copy that list.
I listened to the disc, about 10 seconds of each track to be sure it was there.
OK, Ja?
Nein. Nyet.
I listened to a copy that I had in the car all the way through.
When the music stops abruptly, I goes Hmmm.
Then I hear the bass on another track and realize that I have been had.
It is a disaster. More skipping, more bleeding and bottoming bass, just an unmitigated embarrasment.
I will redo it this weekend, when I get home.

I really should have listened to a copy all the way through, but you know what? Sure I love the Hip, but if you heard as much over 2 days as I did, you might trust the computer more than your own ears as well.

damn... I'm back to Joyce Cooling. There is something about her music that I find so soothing and relaxing, especially when I am doing schoolwork (I'm in the Library at my Uni)

I love smooth jazz and guitar. She definatly hits the spot, although she can be a little riff oriented on some stuff.

TW... I have all of Boney's albums, and personally I think that "Shine" is the worst one. I rarely listen to it. Give me "Body Language" or "Sweet Thing" any day over "shine". The album is OK, but the guest vocals get irritating.

Mindi Abair's latest album I couldn't give two hoots about. I have her other two, and this just sounds like a rehashing of her earlier material IMHO.

But, both Mindi and Boney are stellar live performers. So is Chris Botti to that extent.

I am snowed in, no return home this weekend.

Listening on the web radio reminds me of songs, and makes me fuzzy all over to think how they would sound at home.
